Change a child's last name in NYC?

Anyone familiar with changing a child%26#039;s last name in new york city? I%26#039;m not with child%26#039;s father anymore and I want to change my child%26#039;s name back to my own last name. What do I have to do first? Go to Family Court or Civil Court and get court order? Is this process free? Do you need a %26quot;reason%26quot; to change names? Do you have to stand before a judge? How long does it take? Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks.|||If the father is the legal father (on the BC), then you have to get his permission first. You will also have to prove in court that the change is in the baby%26#039;s best interest.|||If the father signed the birth certificate then you would have to have his permission in order to change the baby%26#039;s last name. You would also have to go in front of a judge (not free) %26amp; tell them why you think its in the child%26#039;s best interest to have there name changed to YOUR last name.
