I just got married and i am looking to see how much it costs to get your name changed on your social security card and your drivers liscense. i also need to know what i need to get in order to get all of this changed over.How much does it cost in the state of tennessee to change your name after you get married?In most states what you have to do is to have your new name put on your marriage license. You did that right? When you filled out that marriage license they asked you what name you wanted to use and you should have told them the new name. If you did that, then you wait until you get your marriage certificate in the mail. First you take that to the social security office and apply for a new social security card. I think that costs less than $20. You can probably find out on their website. Then once you get your new social security card in the mail you take that, your marriage certificate, and your current driver's license to the DMV and get a new license with your new name. That will cost whatever your state charges for a new driver's license, probably around $25 but again you can find out on their website. It's really not expensive. It's just a hassle.



However, if you did not get your new name put on your marriage license then you probably have to go through a legal name change process. I'm not totally sure what that costs but it's a lot more expensive.

Social Security doesn't cost anything, just go to the office and have it changed, bring your marriage license with you.



DMV might charge $10 depending on how long you want the license to be good for, there again you will need your marriage license and Social Security card.



Then theres just the simple things of changing your name on your bills if you want and all that, not really a major thing that you HAVE to do. But the other stuff is important.

I've been married for 7 years.... I don't really remember having to pay anything. First you have to get your social security number changed. You will need to bring your current SS card, current driver's license, and your marriage certificate (not a copy). They will give you a letter at the SS administration building saying that you will be receiving your new SS card in a few weeks. You take that to the DMV and show them and they will change your license for you. Again, it's been too long and I don't remember having to pay anything!

I am currently in the process of doing both of these things, albeit in California. Changing your name on your ss card is free, just go down to the office and be prepared to wait forever. It does cost money at the DMV, but I'm not sure how much. I went there and there was a TWO HOUR wait, so I picked up an app and left. Make sure you bring your marriage license to make both changes.
SS costs nothing. DMV will probably cost $20-40.
U just need your marriage certificate and I think like 20 bucks for the new license...
