How old do you have to be to change your legal name in Canada without parental consent? 18?

I don't really feel like explaining in too much detail why I want to change my name. I will say that many members of my family have done some terrible things and I want nothing to do with them anymore. How old do you have to be to change your legal name in Canada without parental consent? 18?18

You can do it at 18. 16 with consent.
It depends on what province you live in. In Ontario, you can apply once you are 16, but you will require parental consent unless you are 18 or marred.

If you parents refuse to provide consent, you can make a request to the Ontario Court of Justice to allow you to apply without their consent. If they agree, the court will provide you with an order allowing the name change.
