Name change in california, la county? Does it cost a lot?

I am going through the name change process and decided to call the court to find out how much it cost to file the forms. In La county it's 320 bucks! Is there any other way to do this legally? Any cheaper way maybe? I also have to publish the legal notice of name change in a newspaper for 4 weeks, thats going to cost me 105 bucks. Man this name change process is expensive.
