You can change your first /middle/last name, remove names or just rearrange letters in your existing name. In the UK you can change your name when you're 16 not 18 as some people have mentioned. If you're under 16 you need parental consent. I'm not sure about any other countries though, I suggest you try googling the age for name changes if you want somewhere other than the UK. If you're from the UK and want to change your name, this website offers all the information you need to know: deedpoll.org.uk. There is also another route you can take which is statutory declaration (I'm not 100% sure how this works, so again I suggest googling it), or you can go to a solicitor to get a deed poll drawn up. Don't go with one of these cheap online deed poll services however as official places like the passport offices, dvla...etc. etc., may not be willing to recognise it as a official document, therefore rendering it useless to you. It's actually a little known fact that you don't need to pay for a deed poll, you can get them free and done online, which you just print out and then you and two witnesses sign for it, heres the website, freedeedpoll.co.uk. Edit: Just like to add, that whatever route you choose to take, I think you do need at least one or two witnesses, especially for a deed poll, as they have to sign for it to confirm you have changed your name. They cannot be relatives/ partners or people living with you...they must be completely independent to you, so someone like a friend/neighbour/colleague/employer/teac鈥?etc.
