How does one Legal name change?

My friend Anya wants to change her name but has No idea how to go about it . She currently resides in Florida, U.S We have done research online but nothing is very helpful

Do any of you know the procedures and or regulations ,cost ...ect?How does one Legal name change?I changed my first and middle names one year ago yesterday!

I had to go to the local Probate and Family court. I had a one page form that I needed to fill out. It asked what my current name(s) were and what I wanted to change them to and a section for why. The why wasn't really important, I was told by the clerk that I could put down just about anything. Because I am married, I had to have my husband sign the document as well. If you are single, it isn't an issue. The court then ran a background check on me to ensure that I wasn't changing my name to avoid any legal problems, etc. I then had to pay $160 (fee varies by state). As of that day, my names were immediately changed. I received 2 certified copies of the document so that I could use those to change my name on SSN card, driver's license, credit cards, etc. etc.

I was actually quite amazed at how simple and quick it was.

Go to the local courthouse and request forms for petitioning for a name change. You can also find the fees there, they vary by county.

IT's all broken down here except the fees; call the clerk's office for them

Not sure of the costs, but she has to retain an attorney and go to family court if she is over 18.
You change your name through the courts.

She needs to fill out the proper paperwork, and file it with the courts. She will get a hearing date to go before the Judge (sometimes the Judge just signs it). Once it is signed, your name is officially changed. You need certified copies of the Judgment so you can change your Social Security Information, Drivers License, etc.

(See links below)
Go down to your City Hall or the Municipal Court. Go up and ask, they'll give you all the information. Be aware it costs about $500 + court charges.

=)
Go to the office for personal records like where you get your social security and birth certificate
Nope, good luck, though.
