How much money do i need to change my name?

Hello, I'm 18 years old and I would like to change my name a little bit. I wanna put the name I have been going by between my first name and my middle name. I heard that this process is pretty complicated and that I have to go to the court for the change. Could someone elaborate on the details of this process? As a potential science major, I am completely ignorant of this legal stuff. Thank you.How much money do i need to change my name? That is completely dependent on your state.

It is more than a trip to the Social Security office if you want to legally change your name. The cost depends on what state reside in but in general it is about $200 for lawyer and court costs. You talk to the lawyer and he takes notes, they type it up, you go to court and the judge asks a few questions and if the judge agrees it is filed with the county clerk. You can call any lawyer near you and ask how much it would cost. Good luck.
You will need to go to court to have this done. Go to your County Clerk in the County Courthouse to ascertain what forms you will need to fill out. There will be a filing fee (varies depending upon what state you reside - but you can ask what it is before you take any action. You may have to appear before the county judge to explain your case - but it is almost automatic if there are no complications. Once the judge signs the orders, you will have a new name.
