My name is Hayley, but I want to change the way it's spelled to something like Haylie.How old to you have to be to legally change your name? And do you personally think I should?For something like that, don't bother legally changing it. Just spell it the way you want to (Haylie, Hailie, etc) in everyday life and keep using Hayley on formal documents. A lot of people spell their name differently from the way it's listed on their birth certificate. I know a Tammy, a Jody, a Kristy, an Ashley, and a Jennamarie who go by Tami, Jodi, Kristie, Ashlee, and Jena on everything except for legal papers, tax forms, etc. It costs a lot of money to change your name legally for any reason other than marriage, and it takes a lot of paperwork and and involves being issued a new social security card, a new birth certificate, new ID cards, a new drivers license, etc., and you also have to inform all of your insurance companies, credit card companies, loan providers, and usually also your school, your cell phone provider, etc. and if you have a passport, you have to pay over $100 in total costs for a whole new one. Why bother doing all of that when you could just write your name however you want 99% of the time without ANY fees or paperwork or calls to companies or anything?

I don't see anything wrong with your name.

It's not legal, but if you let people know as to your preference there will be no reason to go through the costly procedure of legally changing your name.



To get a name change like that, you'll have to go through the courts.

I do not know when you become old enough to legally change your name, but personally I like your name. the way it's spelled distinguishes it.
I think it would be kind of sence less to change just the spelling.

changing your name is like an insult to your parents, they loved your name and thats why they gave it to you. I think you should leave your name the way it is, it's a very beautiful name. Everyone at some point hates their name but they get over it, my name was supposed to be Tiva Celine but instead i got Tara Lane and when i was a kid people used to say %26quot; spell tara's name backwards and you get %26quot;a rat%26quot; but i got over it and now its funny.

I think you have a pretty name and shouldn't worry about the spelling of it :) But if you wanted to follow through with the whole changing your name, depending on where you live, the age is usually 18. Otherwise, if you decide to keep it, you could always just start spelling it the way you like it......
As far as I no, you have to be 18. But you can only change your first name and/or middle name ONCE without having to go to court.



No, I don't think you should. I like the first spelling better, and what difference does it make? They're said the same.

you can spell your name any way you want ... as for changing it legally ... if you feel strongly about it then yes you should.
I love the spelling name Hayley. You can change your spelling, but think of your parents. Your parents put alot of time and effort in your name

personally i would say NO! it costs money - and you'd still be called the same name . i don't see the point
okay i believe that names have no impact on who you are as a person, so they don't really matter. they're just there so that life isn't so confusing with all the %26quot;he said - wait which he?%26quot; kind of thing. think about why you actually want to change it. if the reason seems worth it, then go on for it.

But if you aren't changing your name from say Hayley to Heather then their is really no point for you to change your name.

The way you spell it is more unique than Haylie. And plus you have to go through all this paperwork and legal issues. You're putting yourself in a situation you don't need to be in. Unless you want to legally change your name from Hayley to Homedog then don't do it.

It'll save you time and most likely money.
Why change your name to your name? It won't change what people call you. AND you will have to get used to writing it the other way. Why be normal? LOL! My name's Haillynn. That's way different and I have never once thought abotu changing it even though then spwllgin could be easier......
